One of the best-known cities for dining in the southeast is Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is home to countless restaurants serving up everything from shrimp and grits to burgers. One of the most widely visited parts of the city is River Street along the Savannah River. Here, you will find a vast array of dining options with a view of cobblestone streets and the river lined with passing ships. I have had the opportunity to eat at many of the restaurants and can tell you the top five Savannah restaurants on the river.

Vic’s On The River

One of my favorite restaurants on River Street is Vic’s On The River. Vic’s is an elegant restaurant with fair pricing.

When I dine at Vic’s, I prefer the bar because it offers views out to the river and is spacious. Additionally, it is not uncommon for a piano player to be seated at the piano in the bar area.

Importantly, the food is superb. I enjoy the seafood offerings and, in particular, the Daily Catch Fried Fish Taco’s for lunch. Personally, I suggest visiting Vic’s for lunch. The prices are significantly lower, and the portion size is equal to that of the dinner menu.

Keep in mind the restaurant has plenty of seating beyond the bar. You won’t have trouble picking up a table for lunch, but I suggest reservations for dinner.

Huey’s

Interestingly, Huey’s is the sister restaurant to Vic’s On The River. The two restaurants are under the same ownership. With that being said, they are equal when it comes to the quality of food and service.

One of the top reasons to visit Huey’s is because they offer a brunch. From 8 AM in the morning on, Huey’s is serving up food.

One of the best parts of dining at Huey’s is the view. The restaurant is lined with windows at ground level to River Street. You will have a view of the river no matter where you sit.

Again, I prefer to avoid dinner at Huey’s because the brunch menu offers everything from French Toast or Pain Perdue to seafood Po Boy sandwiches.

When I visit Huey’s, I prefer to order the Roast Beef Poy Boy. The beef is incredibly tender, and the Creole Mayo adds a nice finishing touch.

If you’re with the kids, mine enjoy the Pain Purdue. They will eat an entire order whenever we visit the restaurant.

Dockside Seafood

If you’re in the mood for a small local feel, Dockside Seafood is your place. The restaurant includes indoor and outdoor seating along River Street.

The inside of the restaurant is dark but comfortable. As the name suggests, the Dockside Seafood menu has an abundance of options when it comes to seafood.

When dining at Dockside Seafood, I recommend ordering the Crab Cake sandwich. The sandwich is packed with local blue crab and is filling. Best of all, Dockside offers some of the best pricing on River Street.

Joe’s Crab Shack

One of the biggest benefits of dining at Joe’s Crab Shack is the location. Joe’s is positioned on the river side of River Street, which means it’s right on the water.

I’ll admit I am not a big fan of chain restaurants, but Joe’s Crab Shack does serve a good meal. If you’re looking for seafood, the menu has endless options between crab, shrimp, fish, and more.

One of the drawbacks to Joe’s is the cost. You won’t find a sandwich on the menu for less than 17 dollars. If you’re out with family or friends, expect a hefty bill, especially when tacking on drinks.

Top Deck Bar

Top Deck is on the list of Savannah restaurants on the river because of the elevated view of the city and river.

It should be noted that the entrance to Top Deck is not on River Street but instead on Bay Street.

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. However, it fills up quickly because space is limited.

When visiting Top Deck, my wife and I most often order and split the Sicilian sandwich. The sandwich is both filling and tasty. Additionally, the beer selection is extensive. You will find local beers on tap at Top Deck Bar.

Pick Any Of These Savannah Restaurants On The River

I would recommend any of the five restaurants on the list, but Vic’s is at the top. Importantly, parking is a challenge on River Street. Your best option is to park your vehicle along the side of Bay Street, just steps above the river. If you’re local or staying in town for a while, take the opportunity to stop in at all five of the most recommended Savannah restaurants on the river. While eating, you are likely to spot the Savannah River Boat cruise passing by.Â
