One of the most fun experiences when boating is pulling out an assortment of finger foods to dine on while cruising or after burning energy playing in the water. Importantly, finger foods are easily prepared beforehand; therefore, you can serve them up when the time calls. As an avid boater and former captain, I have prepared snacks for boats countless times. Here are the 10 best finger food ideas for boating.

Pinwheels

When it comes to serving up pinwheels on a boat, the options are endless. Pinwheels are stuffed tortilla shells cut into bite sized pieces. No matter you and your guest’s tastes, they can be mixed and matched with various cold cuts, lettuces, and sauces.

Undoubtedly some of the most popular include hand and cheese with mayo, roast beef with horseradish sauce, and corned beef with thousand island dressing.

Shrimp Cocktail

Without question, one of the most widely known finger foods is shrimp cocktail. Shrimp cocktail is present at most social events, and it is because of the simplicity.

When you’re headed out on the boat, boil up some shrimp beforehand. Once they are cooked and cooled, toss the shrimp in a bag and pack a small platter. For this reason, create an appealing display with a dish of cocktail sauce in the center.

Fruit Skewers

Take a break from the heat and cool off with some cold fruit skewers. Fruit skewer combinations are endless, but during the summer, one of the most refreshing fruits is watermelon.

I recommend chopping and skewering the fruit before heading out on the water. Stow the skewers in a zip lock bag and put them out when it’s time for a snack aboard the boat.

Cheese And Crackers

Again, a classic finger food but delicious nonetheless. Mix and match a variety of cheeses, including spreadable cheeses and hard cheeses.

Pair the cheeses with an assortment of crackers, including Saltines, Ritz, and Club. Unquestionably, cheese and crackers are filling, so it’s a great option after burning energy swimming or engaging in watersports.

Bruschetta

Importantly, if you’re looking for something that can be prepared ahead of time, bruschetta is an excellent option.

Mix up a container with red onion, diced tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette, parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Once you’re done prepping, toss a lid on the container and pack it for a day on the water. It should be noted that bruschetta should be paired with fresh bread. Purchase French bread and slice it fresh on the boat.

Sliced Vegetables

When comparing fresh fruit and sliced vegetables, again, the options are endless when it comes to veggies.

Without a doubt, some of the favorite sliced vegetables include peppers, carrots, celery, cucumbers, and more. Again, slice them up ahead of time and keep them cold until it’s time to eat.

Dips

Dips come with endless possibilities. Pick up pre made dips from the grocery store or make your own.

Importantly, the dips go well with other finger foods, including, the bread from bruschetta or crackers from the cheese platter. I must admit some of my favorites include spinach artichoke, hummus, and ranch.

Seared Tuna

One of my favorites is seared tuna. Seared tuna is not only a healthy option but a tasty treat for you, your friends, and family.

Take a trip to the local grocery store and pick up a fresh piece of yellowfin tuna. Sear the tuna off for 30 seconds on each side, allow it to cool, and slice thin. However, remember to pack wasabi and soy sauce.

Guacamole

Guacamole served up in a bowl with tortilla trips on the side is the definition of summer. The smooth avocados combined with tomatoes, onion, and lime juice offers a cooling taste

Mix up guacamole at home and place it in the cooler so it can be served cold when it is time to indulge. Importantly, keep the chips in a dry location so they do not become saturated but instead remain crisp.

Salsas

Similar to dips, the options for creating homemade salsa are endless. One of the most notable salsas in the summer sun on a boat is a pineapple based salsa. Conversely, you can’t go wrong with the standard tomato-based salsa. Any option when you’re hungry will do the trick.

Pick Your Favorite Finger Foods

Now that you have ten options to choose from when it comes to finger food ideas for boating pick your favorites. Importantly, don’t just bring along one. Prepare a multitude of snacks to appease everyone’s appetite aboard the boat. Lastly, remember to pack plenty of drinks to remain hydrated on a day out in the sun.
