Since Skidaway is a rather small place with about 8,000 residents and it is of course an island, many people wonder if Skidaway Island is worth a visit or even worth considering as a potential place to live. Skidaway has many benefits for those that love boating, fishing, crabbing and the outdoor lifestyle.

I can personally attest to the fact that the Georgia island is not only a great place to visit but even better place to live.

Is There Boating On Skidaway Island?

One that that is important to understand about Skidaway right from the start is that Skidaway is home to a State Park and a few large private communities. The largest of the communities is called The Landings. The Landings is a high end private community with over 4,000 homes. The Landings is home to six golf coures, an athletic complex and two marinas.

At the two marinas, the Delegal Creek and the Landings Harbor Marina, you can keep you boat in the water or in dry storage. There are no boat ramps at either of the marinas and there is no public access. If you want to take your boat out near the island you will need to use the ramp on the other side of the bridge located at Butterbean Beach.

There are several private homes at the Landings that do have the ability for you to keep a boat in your backyard.

Can You Fish On Skidaway Island?

There is quite a bit of fishing on Skidaway island but the majority of it will be inside the gates of the Landings community. If you like to fish and you can see yourself riding around on a golf cart from fresh to saltwater to grab a few fish, this is a great community for you.

What Does Skidaway Island State Park Have To Offer?

Skidaway Island State Park is located just over the bridge when you enter Skidaway Island. This park has many trails and a great deal of wildlife as well. In addition to the trails, you will also find a campground and a few picnic areas. There was a lovely welcome/learning center at Skidaway Island State Park as well, but it is under construction.

Does Skidaway Have A Beach?

Skidaway Island does not have a beach as it is mostly marsh surrounding the island. There are a few spots on the island that the residents will go to get closer to the water, but you can expect the conditions to be quite muddy. There are no areas where you can pull up a beach chair and spend a day enjoying the water.

However, despite Skidaway not having a beach, Butterbean Beach at the base of the bridge leading to the island can be considered a Skidaway Island beach.
